I was an admin of an organization, but today I noticed that it has been removed. The organization was on a free plan, so I asked the primary admin whether he had removed me or deleted the organization, but he confirmed that he hadn’t.

I also searched to see if organizations could be removed automatically, but found that this isn’t possible. Could you clarify what might have caused the organization to be removed and what the possible reasons could be?

GitHub organizations are not deleted automatically just for being on a free plan. If your org disappeared, possible causes include:

• The primary owner/admin deleted it (only they have that ability).
• The organization violated GitHub’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, which can lead to removal.
• A billing/account issue (if there were linked paid services, like GitHub Apps/Marketplace).
• Rarely, an account security issue (e.g., if the owner account was compromised).

Since you’ve confirmed the owner didn’t delete it manually, the safest step is to contact GitHub Support directly:

They can check logs and clarify exactly why the organization was removed.
