GitHub organizations are not deleted automatically just for being on a free plan. If your org disappeared, possible causes include:

  • The primary owner/admin deleted it (only they have that ability).
  • The organization violated GitHub’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, which can lead to removal.
  • A billing/account issue (if there were linked paid services, like GitHub Apps/Marketplace).
  • Rarely, an account security issue (e.g., if the owner account was compromised).

Since you’ve confirmed the owner didn’t delete it manually, the safest step is to contact GitHub Support directly:
