GitHub Student Account – Copilot Pro Not Activated #170503
-
Hi everyone,I have a verified GitHub Student Developer Pack account, and according to GitHub’s documentation, students should be able to use GitHub Copilot for free. However, despite my account being on the student plan, Copilot Pro is not activating for me. |

This usually happens if the student benefit hasn’t been applied to Copilot yet. Here are a few things to check: Go to Settings → Billing → Copilot and confirm if it shows “Student benefit active.” If it still shows a trial or paid plan option, cancel any existing Copilot subscription first and then re-enable it (make sure your Student Pack is active). Sometimes it takes a few hours for the benefit to sync after approval, so log out and back in. If none of that works, you’ll need to contact GitHub Support with your Student Pack verification details—they can manually apply the benefit. Several students have reported the same issue, and GitHub Support resolved it by syncing their account. |

If your GitHub Student Pack isn’t activating Copilot Pro, first ensure your student verification is complete. At dev technosys, we’ve seen this happen due to pending verification or account mismatches. Check Settings → GitHub Copilot → Activate, ensure your email matches your institution, and wait a few hours. Contact GitHub Education support if it still doesn’t work. |
