Hi! I work in the infrastructure team of rust-lang.

We received the following email:

Hello there,
We are writing to inform you that as of July 14, 2025 all GitHub-hosted runners in public repositories using the Windows Server 2025 image will no longer have a D:/ drive accessible to users.
Currently these hosted runners have both a C:/ and a D:/ drive. After the change only the C:/ drive will be accessible to Actions users. Users that are currently accessing the D:/ drive during their workflow runs may experience breakages.
This change is due to performance reasons. In order to make our runners more performant, the way we manage the disks on our runners is changing. In addition this change will improve startup times for our runners.
This notice is to inform users of the upcoming change, so that you are aware of this upcoming milestone.
If you have questions, feel free to reach out in the actions/runner-images repository.

We have the following questions:

• is the overall capacity of the windows-2025 runner reduced? E.g. if the capacity of the C and D drive today was 150GB each, will the capacity of the C drive be 300GB starting from July 14 or should we expect less disk space available?
• If the capacity is different from what we have available today, is there an estimate on how much storage capacity we can expect going forward for the windows-2025 images?
• have you checked performance for common compilation workloads? We are worried that C: has more filter drivers attached which increases IO overhead.
