   • pg_cron extension

Getting Started

1. clone repo
2. set up a /.env file guided by /.env.example
3. To set up the db schema(s), run

   npx prisma db dev
   

4. to start the app, run:

   npm i
   npm run generate-server
   npm run generate-client
   npm run dev
   

Notes

Uses:

• Prisma ORM
• pothos to help generate a graphql schema from the prisma schema
• yoga graphql server

Scoring

Scores are based on the hacker news algorithm:

Score = (P-1) / (T+2)^G

where,
P = points of an item (and -1 is to negate submitters vote)
T = time since submission (in hours)
G = Gravity, defaults to 1.8 in news.arc

Currently, we're not subtracting 1 from P, and gravity is 1.5

In this app, pg_cron is used to schedule a task that calls the updatescores() procedure every few minutes. This keeps scores updated without needed an external task script.
