BritishPandaChick/README.md

Hello World! I'm Sarah.

I am a software engineer from Akron, Ohio that designs and codes web applications. I teach computer science fundamentals and how to build games in Python at Coding with Kids. I write about code and tech on DEV.

Fun FAQs

✍️ I managed 3 blogs from 2015 - 2021. I founded the blogs The Original BritishPandaChick, BritishPandaChick Codes, and Needlework Kits. Today I write posts on DEV. You can follow me on DEV to see what I'm currently writing about.

💚 I was the founder and moderator of the Elphas Can Code community on Elpha from 2019 - 2022. Elphas Can Code was a space where all Elpha members learning to code can talk and support each other as they learn how to code.

🏰 I created the Disney Codes Challenge in 2019. Disney Codes Challenge was a 57 day coding challenge where developers build projects inspired by Disney each day for 23 minutes. You can learn more about this challenge with this post.

🧵 You can often find me working on a craft project. I post project progress pictures on Instgram. Follow @britishpandachick on Instagram.

🐼 BritishPandaChick pays tribute to a lot of things. British represents my love of British literature and culture while pandas represent my love of the cuddly creatures. Chick is my tribute to all the usernames I created in the past.

Roadmap for Second Half of 2025:

  • create a habit of writing regularly. I'm currently trying to write at least 25-30 minutes a day.
  • Do one professional development activity per day. This includes listening to a podcast episode, reading a programming article,or listening/reading a career book.
  • attend one networking event per month.
  • Build a habit of crafting. I am trying to continue working on tree skirt.
  • Get back on the job search or at least research roles I want.

Progress Update

  • I obtained a library card and have been using the digital resources my library has available. I'm currently using LinkedIn Learning to take different courses and get more certfications. I just obtained one for an introduction to data analytics.
  • I'm learning Korean. I am using Drops and Mango from my local library.
  • I have been publishing one post per week on DEV. I am still a work in progress on writing regulary, but I still do something writing related (writing or editing) every day for 25 minutes.
  • I publish an update on LinkedIn once a week. Sometimes I post a little bit more but I'm trying to use LinkedIn more than any other social media platform.
  • I attend one Virtual Coffee event each week. Sometimes it has been two depending what I have going during the week. Lately I've been attending Job Hunt on Wednesday mornings and Feeling Fridays on Fridays. Last month I attended my first Virtual Coffee event since last year.
