Hi web developers!

We would like to gauge interest and learn about potential use cases for the Prompt API, as described in the explainer.

If you are interested in potentially using this new API, please reply to this thread with your use case and affiliation to a company, organization or app, if any.

Thanks!

@ayuishii , hello. Use-case scenarios of interest to me with respect to the Prompt API include educational technology.

Adaptive question-asking and question-answering systems can enhance digital textbooks and other educational materials. Adaptive recommendation systems could present questions to readers, e.g., in textbooks' margins or otherwise after sections of content. Pertinent questions could stimulate readers’ interest and encourage self-directed learning scenarios.

When readers expand to display, click upon, or otherwise select questions in digital textbooks, expressing interest in obtaining answers and potentially engaging in subsequent educational dialogues, possibilities include:

  1. The question-answer pair could have been pre-compiled, or baked into, the digital textbook.
    1. However, beyond answers to questions, open-ended dialogue starting from the answers to questions would be useful to be able to provide.
  2. The reader could be navigated to a question-answering system or dialogue system in another browser tab.
    1. However, this would navigate learners away from their opened digital textbooks.
    2. Benefits of more integrated approaches include that AI assistants could highlight and/or scroll to pertinent content.
  3. The textbook could access a remote service and provide answers and dialogue inline, in its margins or other regions.
  4. The textbook could interact with a browser-provided sidebar AI assistant.
  5. The textbook could interact with operating-system-provided AI assistant.
  6. The textbook could utilize the Prompt API to access local models and provide answers and dialogue inline, in its margins or other regions.
  7. Combinations of features from the above possibilities.
    1. For at least some questions, pre-compiled or baked-in question-answer pairs could be as cached chat-history data for opening and starting sessions to enable follow-up dialogues.

Artificial-intelligence assistants could utilize contextual digital textbooks, chapters, and sections when answering learners' questions and/or providing follow-up dialogue content.
