Like Cursor, is it possible to Copy-Paste an image and have Claude, Grok, GPT-5 read the image? #177241

Hey there 👋 Right now, GitHub Copilot in VS Code doesn’t support image understanding — meaning if you paste or drag an image into the chat, Copilot can’t actually “see” or analyze what’s in it. It only handles text-based input for now. In contrast, tools like Cursor (and ChatGPT with vision support) can interpret pasted images, so you can show interface issues or visual examples directly — that’s why you notice the difference. As for when this feature will come to Copilot — GitHub hasn’t officially announced a release date yet, but image understanding is something they’re actively working on as part of the broader “Copilot Workspace” and “Copilot Chat with GPT-4” roadmap. So it’s likely coming in a future update once they integrate full multimodal (text + image) capabilities. |

Hi there 👋 You’re right Cursor supports image understanding, but Copilot in VS Code doesn’t yet handle pasted visuals like screenshots or UI mockups. GitHub is actively exploring multimodal features in Copilot Workspace, so image support will likely come in a future update. |

Hello,
I use Cursor and VS Code Github Copilot.
Problem: When using VS Code Github Copilot, when I copy and paste an image into the chat, it can't read the image's contents.
For example, in Cursor, I regularly copy and paste an image to show it where the problem is in the interface or simply to tell it the example of the interface visual I want in my development.
With VS Code Github Copilot, I can copy and paste, but it can't read the image.
Will this feature be available soon?
