Hi GitHub Community,

I’m reaching out because I’ve noticed something unusual in my GitHub Copilot Business billing for September 2025.
• Plan: GitHub Copilot Business
• Active licenses: 11
• Expected monthly charge: around $209 USD
• Actual billed amount: around $418 USD

When I checked the Usage breakdown, each day in September shows a fixed billed amount of $6.97, which seems to have doubled the total monthly cost.

I also found that “Premium request paid usage” was set to Enabled under Billing settings — could this be related to the extra charges?

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with Copilot Business billing this month?
Would appreciate any advice or clarification from the GitHub team or other org admins

Your "Premium request paid usage" being set to Enabled is indeed a key factor. When this is enabled, your organization gets charged for premium requests that exceed your monthly allowance, which are billed separately from your base Copilot Business subscription.

• Base Copilot Business: 11 users × $19/month = $209 USD ✓
• Premium request overages: ~$209 additional charges (explaining the ~$418 total)
• Daily charge of $6.97: This suggests consistent daily premium request usage throughout September

What Are Premium Requests? Premium requests include: (Source Doc)

• Using Copilot Chat with advanced models (GPT-4, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, etc.)
• Large context windows and advanced reasoning models
• Copilot coding agent features
• Some models use multipliers (5× or 20× the standard rate per interaction)

Important

Critical Policy Change (Relevant to Your Situation): GitHub announced in September 2025 that starting November 18, 2025, they're removing $0 premium request budgets for enterprise and team accounts created before August 22, 2025.

The $418 billing you're seeing is working as designed - it's just that premium request overages can significantly impact costs when enabled organization-wide, especially with advanced models that have usage multipliers.

What I recommend you can do:

• Disable premium overages: Set "Premium request paid usage" to DISABLED to prevent future overage charges
• Set a budget limit: Create a specific budget for premium requests to cap spending
• Keep enabled with monitoring: Use GitHub's usage reports to identify which users/features are consuming the most premium requests
• Upgrade heavy users: Consider Copilot Enterprise for users with high premium usage needs
