Thank you for reporting the issue.

We have tried this issue on Magento 2.4-develop and we are successfully able to reproduce it.

Steps followed to reproduce issue:

1. Tested the fetchOne() function output by using the following code sample.

$tableName = $connection->getTableName("sales_order");

$select = $connection->select()->from($tableName, 'entity_id')->where('entity_id = :entity_id');

$entity_id = “random_id_which_is_not_exist”;

$bind = [':entity_id' => $entity_id ];

var_dump( $connection->fetchOne($select, $bind) );

2. Function returns a string when the query result is not null.
3. Function returns false(bool) value when the query result is null.
