In February 2025, an Initial Steering Committee for EasyBuild was formed.
The main reposibility of the Initial Steering Committee is to come up with a proper governance structure for EasyBuild, beyond the BDFL + do-ocray model that has been used since EasyBuild was made publicly available as open source software in 2012.
The members of the Initial Steering Committee include (in alphabetical order):

- Simon Branford (University of Birmingham, UK)
- Kenneth Hoste (Ghent University, Belgium)
- Adam Huffman (University of Oxford, UK)
- Sam Moors (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium)
- Caspar van Leeuwen (SURF, The Netherlands)
- 3 March 2025: kickoff meeting
- 18 June 2025: discuss draft proposal for proper governance structure for EasyBuild
