I installed libldap2-dev & libsasl2-dev
RUN docker-php-ext-configure ldap --with-libdir=lib/x86_64-linux-gnu --with-ldap-sasl=/usr/include/sasl/

configure: error: sasl.h not found!

but this file in this path exists

I thought it might work like #103 (comment). But it seems that it needs a bit more to find the libraries in how Debian arranges them. @tianon and I are looking into the patches that Debian applies to php to see if we can find a solution (mostly @tianon ❤️).

I've done some more testing, and this problem does not appear to be Debian-related:

$ docker run -it --rm php:7.1-alpine sh
...
/ # apk add --no-cache openldap-dev cyrus-sasl-dev
...
/ # ls /usr/include/sasl/
hmac-md5.h   md5.h        md5global.h  prop.h       sasl.h       saslplug.h   saslutil.h
/ # docker-php-ext-configure ldap --with-ldap-sasl=/usr/include/sasl/
+ cd ldap
+ phpize

I have the same problem. Can't seem to instal ldap "--with-ldap-sasl"

/var/www/html # find / -iname sasl.h
/usr/include/sasl/sasl.h
/usr/include/c++/6.2.1/javax/security/sasl/Sasl.h

Despite that I keep getting
configure: error: sasl.h not found!

if seems that this did the trick:

RUN ln -s /usr/include/sasl/sasl.h /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sasl.h && \
    docker-php-ext-configure ldap --with-libdir=lib/x86_64-linux-gnu --with-ldap-sasl

Since there appears to be a working solution, I'm going to close. Thanks!
