Currently, it is not possible to update data by replacing the source file. You must either create a new data item, or manually update the data, without using the GeoServer.
In previous versions, it was possible to update data by replacing it via a "replace" button.
Would it be possible to reintroduce this button?

Will the Replace and Append functions be available in Geonode 4 at one point or are they dropped permanently? The replace and append functions serve important use cases for the users, which makes me wonder why they were dropped (if that's really the case) from Geonode 4.

@aaltartouri they will. We're only waiting for a project willing to sponsor it.
